Last fall, the Center for Data Science was thrilled to welcome BetterWorks for one of our career information sessions. BetterWorks is a startup trying to improve the work management and performance evaluation processes in corporate offices. If you are a working professional, chances are you might have used one of their performance evaluation tools, which keep track of your yearly goals, such as sales targets or product efficiency quotas. The company’s philosophy is that setting goals should not be only between a manager and an employee, but visible to the entire organization, even across teams. Their unique approach includes a visually appealing and intuitive web-based platform, and relies on social reinforcement, such as reminders on current targets, or commendation from peers on recent achievement. BetterWorks is using data science to improve their own business model by looking at how their product is being used by existing clients, and will soon be developing product recommendations and design improvements based on those findings.
Students attending the career informaiton session were encouraged to apply for upcoming career opportunites with BetterWorks.
