The CDS Partners Program
In recognition of the need for data science in academia, industry, and government, we created the NYU Center for Data Science Partners Program. The objective of the program is to create mutually beneficial relationships around recruiting, research, and philanthropic giving. With our robust faculty across diverse domains, the interdisciplinary nature of the Center for Data Science allows us the leverage to connect industry partners across academic programs at NYU. In turn, our students apply their data science knowledge to various domains, strengthening their overall ability as data scientists.
Our History
The NYU Center for Data Science Partners Program is the opportunity to collaborate with New York City’s leading data science research and academic institute. As one of the oldest degree-granting data science programs in the world, CDS was founded in 2013 by Dr. Yann LeCun in response to the growing demand for data scientists in academia, industry, and government. Over the years, we have produced hundreds of data science practitioners and leaders, recruited faculty in joint partnership with domain departments, strengthened interdisciplinary relationships across the university, and sponsored research projects with industry.
Why Become a Partner
CDS partners have first-hand access to a prime candidate pool, i.e. our students and alumni. In addition to recruiting, we collaborate with our partners on activities such as datathons, independent research projects, and more. A recent example is our new initiative, CDS-Courant Academic Research Services (CARS), a mentorship program, in which employees from external companies are mentored by our faculty who advise them in executing a research project. The initiative launched during the fall 2021 semester with our first collaborator LG Electronics (Seoul, South Korea). The first iteration of projects with LG focused on learning new visual and NLP-based classification models with minimally labelled data. We’re excited to expand CARS this year – more information coming soon.

General Support
General support provides CDS the ability to finance innovative initiatives, conference sponsorships, research-space development, and junior fellowships for early-career researchers, among other efforts. Simply put, it helps CDS realize its core mission: creating a world-leading data science training and research facility, arming researchers and professionals with the tools to harness the power of Big Data, and having a lasting impact in shaping data science research and practice.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative
CDS has set out to build a culture that values and embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion. These ideals are necessary for advancing innovation and knowledge within the fields of technology, engineering, mathematics, and sciences. DE&I at CDS was established to address the absence of diverse backgrounds in data science. We invite industry partners to aid us in achieving our goal of creating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable data science community.
Career & Recruiting
CDS provides concierge service to our industry career & recruiting partners to identify and recruit top talent. For more information on our career activities, please visit our career page.
Sponsored Research
Sponsored research synergizes industry ventures with academia. Collaboration among industry partners with our faculty, students, and/or postdoctoral researchers, invigorates our community and enables our partners to gain insights into meaningful research pursuits.
