Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions about CDS’ undergraduate program in data science:
Declaration periods for the data science major, minor, and joint data science and mathematics major are:
– Fall semester: Entire month of October
– Spring semester: Mid-February to mid-March
– Summer: Mid-June to mid-July
The joint computer science and data science major may be declared anytime throughout the academic year.
Email cds-undergraduate@nyu.edu to request the declaration form during these periods.
Students must complete either DS-UA 111 Principles of Data Science I or DS-UA 112 Principles of Data Science II (depending on placement) with a grade of C or better before declaring the major in Data Science.
Students must complete either DS-UA 111 Principles of Data Science I or DS-UA 112 Principles of Data Science II and CSCI-UA 101 or CSCI-UA 102 (depending on placement) both with a grade of C or better before declaring the joint major in computer science and data science.
Yes, as long as their home school allows it.
– Data science majors: Yes, up to two courses with another major.
– Data science minors: Yes, one course with another minor.
Yes, up to 16-credits of external NYU (non-CAS) courses.
In some cases, yes. However, waived credits must be made up via electives.
NYU Admissions reviews credit transfer requests first. Approved courses are then sent to CDS for internal review to determine applicability to the major/minor.
