Data science skills are highly sought after in the US job market. Our departmental career services have facilitated excellent outcomes. Below are the career and professional development resources available to our students.
Resources
The Center for Data Science, in collaboration with the NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development, offers a wide range of career and professional development resources to assist CDS students with their internship/job search process. These initiatives help students develop professional skills and connect with companies and organizations offering data science opportunities.
We encourage students to take full advantage of the following:
CDS Company Information Sessions
Held during Fall and Spring semesters, these sessions introduce students to companies and their data science initiatives. Company representatives share:
- Organization overview
- Data scientists’ roles in their organization
- Interesting projects
- “Day in the life” of a Data Scientist
CDS Career Fair
These fairs typically feature 5-8 companies recruiting data scientists. Students can:
- Have brief conversations with company representatives
- Learn about data science initiatives and job openings
- Submit resumes directly to companies
Datathons/Hackathons
CDS-hosted events where students:
- Demonstrate their skills
- Work with company data
- Connect with employers in a non-traditional setting
Companies provide datasets and challenges that lasts up to 6 hours, and their data scientists and engineers judge the results.
Professional Development Sessions
Fall and Spring semester workshops cover:
- Resume reviews
- Interview resources
- Communication skills
- Other professional development topics
