Overview
Data science is one of the most sought after skill sets in the United States right now! We have facilitated great placement outcomes through our departmental career services. The resources below outline the career placement and professional development services that are available to our students.
Resources
Finding internships and full-time jobs can be a challenging process for many students. The Center for Data Science, in collaboration with the NYU Wasserman for Center Career Development, offers a wide range of career and professional development resources to assist CDS students with the internship/job search process.
Through a variety of resources, CDS helps students develop their professional skills and connect with companies and organizations with internships and full-time opportunities in data science.
We encourage students to take full advantage of the following initiatives/resources.
CDS Company Information Session
CDS offers internal Company Information Sessions during the Fall and Spring semesters. During these sessions, students learn about companies and their data science initiatives. The company representatives share information about who they are, what they do, the role that data scientists play in the organization, and interesting data science projects they have. Students also get to learn what it is like to work at that company through a “day in the life” as a Data Scientist at the organization.
CDS Career Fair
CDS holds Career Fairs which usually have about 5-8 companies that are currently recruiting data scientists. Students have a chance to have quick conversations with company representatives about their data science initiatives and job openings. Students will also have the opportunity to submit their resumes directly to the companies.
Datathons/Hackathons
CDS hosts Datathons/Hackathons where our students demonstrate their talent, interact with the company data, and have an opportunity to connect with employers in a non-traditional way. Companies provide us with a dataset and a challenge that lasts up to 6 hours, and their Data Scientists and Engineers judge the groups and the team wins based on a criteria provided to them before the challenge.
Professional Development Sessions
During the Fall and Spring semesters, CDS hosts workshops to help students develop their professional skills, including resume reviews, interview resources, communication skills, etc.
