PhD in Data Science: Application Support Program

Not everyone applying to graduate school has access to someone who can offer feedback on their application. The PhD Application Support Program connects applicants to NYU’s Computer Science and Data Science PhD programs with current PhD students who can help.

This student-led program offers one round of written feedback on applicants’ statement of purpose (SOP) essays. Student volunteers from the Computer Science and Data Science programs review SOP drafts to help applicants communicate their interests, experience, and goals more clearly.

How to Participate

Submit your draft of your statement of purpose through the request form between October 23 and November 6, 2026. Requests will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until volunteer capacity is reached. The form may close before November 6, and applicants who have been matched will be notified that they have been matched by November 15th.

Applicants matched with a volunteer will receive feedback by November 24, 2026. Your essays do not need to be polished, but please provide a draft with enough detail for a volunteer to offer useful feedback.

This program is separate from the admissions process. Participation does not affect admissions decisions or guarantee admission. You must submit your PhD application separately through the official application process.
