The Center for Data Science (CDS) is committed to building a culture and environment that embraces inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity, and accessibility. Below is information on CDS groups with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
DEI Committee
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is composed of faculty, researchers, and staff members serving as an advisory body and working to ensure these values are central to the CDS mission. The Committee meets regularly throughout the academic year to discuss, strategize, and implement plans to enhance organizational systems, policies, and programs.
Student Groups
We have several student groups to enhance the sense of community at CDS. Below we highlight two student groups, the Student Inclusion and Belonging Advisory Board (formerly the Diversity Affinity Group) and Women in Data Science (WiDS), with particular focuses on diversity.
Student Inclusion and Belonging Advisory Board
At the NYU Center for Data Science, we are committed to cultivating an environment where every individual feels valued and supported. This commitment is central to our success as both a research center and an academic program. As a part of CDS’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative, we established the Student Inclusion and Belonging Advisory Board, whose purpose is to create a space where students from all backgrounds can come together and express themselves openly and comfortably.

This semester, we hosted an Unconscious Bias workshop in partnership with NYU OGI, which focused on addressing imposter syndrome in academia and the workplace… The Board is committed to fostering a sense of belonging and empowering our members to thrive academically and professionally within an inclusive and welcoming CDS community.”
Women in Data Science (WiDS) President
Meet Cecilia Wu, Co-President along with Vicky Lin of Women in Data Science (WiDS) and a second-year master’s student at CDS.
“Women in Data Science is committed to building a community at CDS that is both inclusive and diverse. Its mission is to empower, inspire and connect a cohort of women in data science, technology, and data ownership. Together, we can accomplish great things and support each other in our personal and professional growth at WiDS.”
Resources
NYU has a number of university-wide resources and initiatives that support diversity, equity, and inclusion:
Prayer and Meditation Space
As part of our continued efforts to cultivate a more inclusive environment, we designated a room for prayer and meditation, open to all CDS students, faculty, researchers, and staff.
