Bio: Aramis (he/him) is a PhD student in the Center for Data Science advised by Prof. Brian McFee. His research focuses on understanding how deep neural networks learn audio embeddings through self-supervision. He earned his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at NYU, where he worked with Prof. Dan Sanes and Dr. Ralph Peterson to study how the gerbil auditory cortex encodes conspecific vocalizations. He later worked with Prof. Alex Williams at the Flatiron Institute to develop methods for localizing vocalizations in social neuroscience experiments, giving researchers the tools to better understand the communicative function of animal calls.
