
Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions about CDS’ undergraduate program in data science:
For the data science Major, Minor, and Joint Major in Data science and Mathematics students must complete DS-UA 111 Principles of Data Science I with a C or better.
For the Joint Major in Computer Science and Data Science students must complete DS-UA 111 Principles of Data Science I and CSCI-UA 101 or CSCI-UA 102 (depending on placement) both with a grade of C or better.
Upon the successful completion of the required courses (see above question) students may declare the data science major, minor, or one of the joint majors. You can find the declaration forms below:

Yes, as long as their home school allows it.
– Data science majors: Yes, up to two courses with another major.
– Data science minors: Yes, one course with another minor.
Yes, up to 16-credits of external NYU (non-CAS) courses.
In some cases, yes. However, waived credits must be made up via electives.
NYU Admissions reviews credit transfer requests first. Approved courses are then sent to CDS for internal review to determine applicability to the major/minor.
